2019 Symposium Week Recap
This year, the theme of WLC's Symposium week was "Hear Her Now." Women in the legal profession come from a variety of backgrounds, bringing with them diverse perspectives and experiences. There is no one single voice, but oftentimes the conversation of women in law excludes many voices. Those voices deserve to be heard. This year, WLC's Symposium programming attempted to spark a conversation about how to ensure these voices are heard, and to highlight the diversity present in the legal field. Thank you so much to everyone who spoke at, attended, set up, planned, and promoted our events. We are so grateful for your help in making this week a success!
Monday Feb. 11: A Conversation with Women of Color on Gender Equality | Thank you to the panelists for a candid, thoughtful and engaging discussion!
Tuesday Feb. 12: Thank you to the attorneys on our Recognizing and Overcoming Implicit Biases panel and to Prof. Peery for moderating!
Thursday Feb. 14: Symposium Keynote Dinner | Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx shared her path to the SA’s office, and her goals to make it the most equitable, just, and transparent prosecutor’s office in the country. We are so grateful that she joined us!
Friday Feb. 15: Our final event of Symposium week was a discussion of legal advocacy for domestic violence victims. Thank you to Prof. Tuerkheimer and panelists from the State’s Attorney’s Office and Lifespan Center for Legal Services and Advocacy for sharing their work experiences.
